Imposter syndrome.

Everyones felt it. Even that fact in itself provides some solace. Maybe we’re not all ‘faking it’ but we all go through moments of doubt & uncertainty. What’s important though is to understand that it doesn’t define you & that you can always bounce back if you so choose to.


So, what are our top tips in beating Imposter Syndrome?


1  Accept that you’re likely not a good enough leader, friend—or whatever it is that you’re struggling with—YET. The vast majority of people get hung up and quit—and that’s what actually holds them back, not the fact they’re not good enough. Do not quit! We want more for you & we know you want more for you, too.
 

2  Here’s the thing: you can get good at anything. True story. Repeat that in your head over, and over, and over. Obsess over the thought that you can get good by actually pouring yourself and all of your energy into acquiring whatever that new skill may be. Those that focus on learning will perform leaps & bounds ahead than those that focus on the fear of losing.  If you haven’t read Carol Dweck’s book “Mindset’, this is a Dream Collective fav that we highly recommend. 
 

3  Affirmations are more than just a self-help statements to make ourselves feel better. They can have a significant impact on our overall quality of life. Regular affirmations allow us to become more in tune with our goals and the way we think about our self in general. Your subconscious can not differentiate between what’s real & not which means, we become what we think about most. So if you tell yourself you’re hopeless or don’t deserve to be somewhere, how demotivating is that for future-you?

While we do recommend looking into affirmations that are right for you & the stage of life/work you are in, the below are a few thought-starters that speak directly to Imposter Syndrome:

  • “I am smart and capable of accomplishing anything.”
  • “I am confident and able to handle any obstacle thrown in front of me.”
  • “I breathe in confidence & exhale fear.”
